GWS will dare to dream despite their form tapering badly on the eve of the Giants' third straight AFL finals campaign.
Giants coach Leon Cameron says the pre-finals bye has come at the perfect time for his faltering team, who will have to do it the hard way if they are to claim their first premiership.
After finishing in the top four for the past two years and reaching preliminary finals, GWS finished seventh and have a sudden-death elimination final against local rivals Sydney.
The AFL has confirmed the schedule for week one of the finals, with Sydney playing GWS at the SCG in a twilight match on Saturday, September 8.
The finals open on Thursday night, September 6, with minor premiers Richmond playing Hawthorn at the MCG in their qualifying final.

Melbourne and Geelong have their elimination final on Friday night at the MCG and the West Coast-Collingwood qualifying final is on Saturday night at Optus Stadium.
The Swans beat the Giants last weekend and on Sunday, Melbourne added emphasis to their finals return with a resounding 45-point win over the Giants at the MCG.
Cameron said his team stopped at halftime in the 15.12 (102) to 8.9 (57) loss.
"There are 22 rounds for a reason. You don't stop at 21," Cameron said.
Despite starting the finals on the back of two losses, the Giants coach remained upbeat.
"Anything is possible ... one thing about our footy club this year is we've bounced back," he said.
"Anyone can win and we're going to put ourselves in that basket.
"But we need to play our best footy and we haven't in the last four or five quarters.
"I'm confident we can in 13 days time."
The injury-plagued Giants have several players pressing for senior recalls in the elimination final.
Cameron said Zac Williams, Toby Greene, Matt De Boer, Sam Taylor and Aiden Corr will put their hands up.
"I don't think you could play five or six - that's probably flirting with it a little bit because the Swans are a powerful team ... you always have to go to the wire," Cameron said.
He said ruckman Rory Lobb, who had back tightness against the Demons, would be fit for the Swans clash.
The win meant the Demons finished fifth and Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin said the finals-hardened Cats would hold no fear for his September greenhorns.
It's Melbourne's first finals series since 2006.
Also on Sunday, West Coast confirmed second spot and their home qualifying final with the 14.14 (98) to 11.6 (72) win over Brisbane at the Gabba.
Collingwood secured third spot on Saturday, beating Fremantle in Perth by nine points.
Hawthorn returned to the top four after missing the finals last year, beating Sydney on Saturday night by nine points.
The Tigers extended their MCG winning streak to 21 with Saturday's three-point win over the Western Bulldogs.
Jack Riewoldt kicked five goals to secure his third Coleman Medal, four ahead of Ben Brown.
The North Melbourne spearhead kicked three goals in Sunday's 17.15 (117) to 14.10 (94) win over St Kilda.
