The family of a Queensland policeman shot in the face this week will today turn his life support off.
Detective Senior Constable Damian Leeding was shot in the face at the Pacific Pines Tavern on Sunday night.
He's been in the Gold Coast hospital in a critical condition.
Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers says words cannot describe the heartache surrounding the fate of Detective Leeding, who was shot during an armed robbery.
The Queensland Police Service on yesterday said his family would turn off his life support based on medical advice.
Mr Leavers on Wednesday said it was a hard decision for the family.
"At this point words cannot describe the heartache and heartbreak we're all feeling," he told ABC Radio.
"This has affected police not only in the Gold Coast area but all across Queensland and Australia."
Det Leeding's wife Sonya is also a Gold Coast police officer. They have two young children, baby Grace and two-year-old Hudson.
Three people have been remanded in custody over the shooting.
The Queensland Police Service says it will continue to provide every possible support to the family of DSC Leeding during this incredibly sad time.
