It might come as a bit of a shock to fans, but the man who created the cult animated comedy Family Guy says the show should have ended by now.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Seth MacFarlane says that ten seasons - which the cast have clocked up - is too much.
"Part of me thinks that Family Guy should have already ended. I think seven seasons is about the right lifespan for a TV series", MacFarlane said.
The Fox series centres around the comical exploits of an 'average' American Family, with the rude and inconsiderate Peter Griffin at its centre, who MacFarlane provides the voice for. Its surreal , often almost non-existent plotlines and politically incorrect jokes have seen the series garner a huge fan base as well as controversy in the US.
Fox, which makes the show, famously cancelled it in 2003. But huge DVD sales and re-run success on another network forced Fox's hand in bringing it back.
In the interview with the Hollywood Reporter, MacFarlane pays heed to the role of the fans in his ongoing success away from the show.
"I talk to the fans and in a way I'm kind of secretly hoping for them to say we're done with it. There are plenty of people who say the show is kind of over the hill… but still the vast majority go pale in the face when I mention the possibility" MacFarlane said.
