Family worried over TV crew Beirut arrest

It's the birthday of 60 Minutes sound recordist David Ballment, who is detained in Beirut, his South Australian uncle says.

The uncle of 60 Minutes sound recordist David Ballment, who is marking his 56th birthday in a Lebanese jail, says his family is "desperately worried".

"It's David's birthday today and he should be celebrating with his family," David Quodling, from Nuriootpa in South Australia, told ABC radio on Wednesday.

"We are desperately worried about him. David's been in a few mix ups before this job but ... we just wonder what the hell's going on."

Mr Ballment along with Channel Nine reporter Tara Brown and colleagues Benjamin Williamson and Stephen Rice have been charged over an alleged botched child recovery mission in Beirut.

Also charged is Brisbane mother Sally Faulkner as well as two others, believed to be members of a child recovery agency.
