Robbie Farah is handling being left out of the NSW State of Origin side well, according to South Sydney coach Michael Maguire.

South Sydney coach Michael Maguire says Robbie Farah is handling his NSW State of Origin axing well by switching his focus to Friday night's NRL clash with Parramatta.

Maguire said Blues coach Laurie Daley had been in contact with Farah after Nathan Peats received the nod to wear the No.9 jersey due to an injury to Peter Wallace.

"The way he's gone about his training, he's definitely handled that very well," Maguire said.

"His focus now is about what we need to do on Friday.

"He's put a lot of energy into making sure we get things right this week, so I haven't seen any change."

The Rabbitohs face the Eels at ANZ Stadium in the only match of this weekend's shortened round which is unaffected by Origin selection.

While Maguire stopped short of saying Farah had done enough to be picked, he was happy with how the 33-year-old had been performing at club level.

"I think Rob, over the last couple of weeks, has performed really well for us," Maguire said.

"He's driving the team around the park and he's showing some really good form."

South Sydney face the Eels on a five-day turnaround after Sunday's 14-6 loss to Melbourne in Perth.

But they won't be using that as an excuse if Parramatta can bounce back from their loss to Canberra.

"The boys actually look really good at the moment," Maguire said.

"They know how to handle these things and they're used to whatever turnaround you face.

"We took a big step on Sunday and now it's about doing it again."

Maguire was impressed with their defensive efforts against the competition-leading Storm and is using that game as a foundation to get their fifth win of the year.

"When we attacked, I think probably just being a little bit more clinical in areas will get us in a better place," he said.
