Mo Farah will compete for the final time on a British track at the Diamond League meeting in Birmingham on August 20, organisers have announced.

The four-time Olympic champion had been expected to bring the curtain down on his glittering track career at the World Championships in London next month, where he will bid to retain his 5000m and 10,000m titles, but will now race again a week later at the Muller Grand Prix.

It has not been announced over what distance the 34-year-old will be racing at Alexander Stadium.

Farah, who is bidding farewell to his glorious track career to focus on the marathon, said: "I'm really looking forward to what will be my final track race in Britain at the Muller Grand Prix Birmingham on August 20, and I'm sure it will be a day I remember for the rest of my life.

"To get the opportunity to say goodbye to the track in front of a British crowd is something that means a lot to me and I hope I can take everything in. I've run many great races at the Alexander Stadium over the years, and have a history there, so it's a fitting venue for my last track race.

Farah competed for the final time before the World Championships as he won over 3000m at the Anniversary Games on Sunday.
