About 600 locals are expected to turn up at Deniliquin on the Victorian border, for the Murray-Darling Basin Authority's first community meeting in the state.
NSW Farmers' Association vice president Fiona Simson says people feel the draft plan is being imposed on them by those who know nothing about water usage.
The draft plan recommends an overall cut to water allocations of between 27 and 34 per cent to protect the health of the river system with an estimated 800 jobs to be lost in the process.
