Sean O’Brien became a viral sensation after an image of him dancing was anonymously posted on the social media site 4chan in February. The comment beside it said: “Spotted this specimen trying to dance the other week. He stopped when he saw us laughing”.
The online community was quick to jump to Mr O’Brien’s defence; Twitter user Cassandra Fairbanks launched an online campaign to track him down, using the hashtag #FindDancingMan. She said she and a bunch of women in LA wanted to “do something special” for him and throw him a dance party.
The word spread fast across the Twitterverse and soon Mr O’Brien responded, creating a Twitter account under the name @Dancingmanfound.
Mr O’Brien travelled from his hometown of Liverpool, England to attend the party in Hollywood. Superstar DJ Moby spun some tunes, and high profile guests including Monica Lewinsky attended to show their support.
Mr O’Brien said he was overwhelmed by the experience, telling the Daily Mail Online: “I’ve never danced so much, it’s been the best night of my life, unbelievable.”
“So many people have given so much support, I’m humbled.”
