A fatal crash between a car and truck in northern Victoria is not being included in the state's road toll, pending investigations.

Victoria Police said on Thursday evening the death of a driver at an intersection in Yalca after colliding with a truck earlier that day has been removed from the lives lost figure.

Cases removed from the lives lost figure can include incidents where the cause of death is medical, intentional or has occurred off-road on private property.

Victoria's road toll stands at 199 after an 87-year-old man died when his Holden station wagon lost control on a bend in Macs Cove on Wednesday afternoon.

The man's 83-year-old wife was airlifted to Wangaratta Hospital with serious injuries.
