FBI spied on Mandela during US visit

Newly-released documents show the FBI spied on Nelson Mandela on his historic visit to the US months after his release from prison.

Newly-released documents show the FBI spied on Nelson Mandela on his historic visit to the US months after his release from prison.

At the time, the anti-apartheid leader's political party the ANC was still designated as a terrorist organisation by the US government.

The FBI wanted to be sure there was no violence directed at Mr Mandela during the eight city visit in 1990.

North America correspondent John Stempin told Kristina Kukolja why Mr Mandela was considered a terrorist as late as 2008.
