Paralympian Kurt Fearnley says he has been given "the easiest job in the world" in being appointed an ambassador for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The five-time Paralympian and wheelchair racing great was unveiled on Thursday by Games organisers as their fourth ambassador for the Gold Coast event.

He joins Olympic gold medallists Sally Pearson and Anna Meares and swimmer Cameron McEvoy.

Fearnley says the opportunity to promote the Games is something he's only too happy to take on.

"It's going to be the best Games we've seen in decades," he said.

"It's so unique. It's going to be so family friendly. It's fun, there's surf, there's sun. There's nothing you can't promote with these Games."

After competing at his first Paralympics in Sydney in 2000, Fearnley said the chance to potentially don Australian colours one more time at a home event was a thrill.

He also spoke highly of the fact the Commonwealth Games combines both able-bodied and parasport events.

"Someone from a developing nation where people with disabilities, they are the most marginalised, and they're sitting down with the Usain Bolts," he said.

"That is a real asset to us but also I think it's a real asset to the able-bodied athletes as well - this gives everybody a chance to experience what sport's about."
