Fears for missing north Qld fisherman

Fears are held for a far north Queensland fisherman who has not been seen since taking his boat to sea a week ago.

A fisherman has gone missing in far north Queensland, sparking a search of local waters.

The 54-year-old Lower Daintree man has not been heard from since he went to sea on March 16 in a nine-metre commercial fishing boat.

Police said the man was believed to have been heading south in the Lockhart River. Cairns Water Police and Lockhart River Police are due to co-ordinate a search of surrounding waters at first light on Saturday.
