Fed govt flags eating disorders support

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt says he's determined to improve support for Australians with eating disorders and could consider a new Medicare subsidy.

The federal health minister is considering a new Medicare subsidy to help Australians recover from eating disorders.

Greg Hunt has directed a taskforce to examine how a subsidy could help patients get affordable access to specialists, such as psychologists and nutritionists.

He told The Courier-Mail on Tuesday he was "hopeful" of good news when the taskforce reported back. If not, he "would find another way" to ensure people with eating disorders got the help they needed.
