The commonwealth has been far too quick to scrap the final two years of Gonski school funding, NSW Premier Mike Baird says.
Mr Baird said federal Education Minister Scott Birmingham has moved to axe the program's funding stream before understanding if it works.
"I understand their budget position but we're committed to delivering these funds because we want to determine whether the educational outcomes of our children have improved," Mr Baird said reporters in Sydney on Tuesday.
"I'd be saying it's too early for them at this stage to be making that decision."
