Fenech wants no Green-Mundine rematch

Jeff Fenech has slammed a mooted rematch between Danny Green and Anthony Mundine saying boxing in Australia should be banned if it goes ahead.

Jeff Fenech says boxing should be banned in Australia if a rematch is sanctioned between old adversaries Anthony Mundine and Danny Green.

Triple world champion Fenech is concerned Mundine could be seriously hurt if he moves up a few divisions to fight Green.

Mundine was knocked down several times and stopped in the 11th round by American Charles Hatley In Melbourne, on Wednesday.

He was also floored numerous times by Joshua Clottey in another super welterweight loss last year.

If Mundine does opt to fight on and go for a rematch with Green, it would be above the super middleweight limit they fought at nine years ago, when Mundine scored a unanimous points win.

Green, who meets German Konni Konrad In Melbourne on December 2, hasn't fought at super middleweight since the 2006 bout, campaigning at light heavyweight and mostly at cruiserweight.

Mundine has gone to the other range of the weight stakes, dropping down to middleweight and super welterweight, the division in which he has had his past three fights.

Fenech, who trained Green early in his professional career, was concerned the West Australian fighter, would also come into the ring considerably heavier than Mundine after bulking up following an eve of fight weigh in.

"If the boxing authorities let Danny Green fight Anthony Mundine then boxing should be banned in Australia," Fenech told AAP.

"Whatever authority, whether it be NSW or Victoria, let that fight go ahead, they should never be allowed to work again.

"If Anthony Mundine gets hit properly by Danny Green he could get very badly hurt."

On his Facebook page, Green hinted at the probes Mundine could face in a rematch.

"All respect to Hatley but he is NOT a puncher," Green posted.

Johnny Lewis, who trained Fenech for most of his career, thought there would still be some demand for a rematch, despite Mundine's loss to Hatley.

"I don't think it would be as appealing as their first one, but I think there's still people that think it would be a good fight," Lewis told AAP.

"I certainly tipped 'Choc' (Mundine) in the first one, but I'm sure I wouldn't pick him in the next one.

"I think it's all stacking up for Danny to have a convincing victory."
