Blake Ferguson's second coming at fullback could become a permanent move for the Sydney Roosters' representative star.
Ferguson's move to fullback was one of the NRL off-season's most-anticipated positional switches after Roger Tuivasa-Sheck defected to the Warriors.
But the former Canberra star struggled to adapt to the custodian role at the Tricolours and lasted just one game, the 42-10 thumping by South Sydney in round one, before moving back to his familiar centre role.
In recent weeks, though, Ferguson has been returned to the back and has starred in the Roosters' two biggest wins of the season over last year's grand finalists Brisbane and North Queensland.
He is looking more at home in the No.1 jersey.
"I am feeling more comfortable there, having that position and staying there for a few weeks and making errors on the field - but then going back into training and understanding why you made those errors and looking to combat that," Ferguson told AAP.
"For me, I like to learn new positions and it is always good to be versatile."
Latrell Mitchell is another possibility to take over club legend Anthony Minichiello's long-term custodian role at Bondi next season, while new signing Parramatta's Michael Gordon is another.
But NSW winger Ferguson could be the favourite.
"It is always a possibility and, if I do get the opportunity to play there long term, then I will definitely take it but it is up to the coach to decide that," Ferguson said.
With the Roosters out of finals contention, incumbent Kangaroos winger Ferguson can salvage something from his year with a spot in the Australian squad for the Four Nations tournament in Britain - and then hit the ground running in 2017.
"I hope so; I will be enjoying it if I do get picked," Ferguson said.
