Ferguson stars, SA edge WA in one-dayer

South Australia's Callum Ferguson has helped his side advance to the finals of the domestic one-day cricket tournament with a win over Western Australia.

A classy captain's knock of 169 from Callum Ferguson has guided South Australia into the finals of the domestic one-day cricket competition.

Ferguson helped his side record a five-run victory over Western Australia in a dramatic clash that featured three centuries.

WA finished 6-325 in response to SA's 7-330 at Sydney's Drummoyne Oval on Sunday, suffering their first defeat of the tournament.

"Fergy batted unbelievably well to get us a competitive total," SA batsman Tom Cooper said.

"It showed how classy a player he is ... he made batting look easily."

Ferguson, who has played one Test and 30 ODIs, won the toss then produced the highest score of his one-day career and highest score of the current tournament.

Michael Klinger (143) and Mitch Marsh (124) both fell victim to swing specialist Chadd Sayers in the 48th over of the chase, having shared a 241-run partnership.

Cooper, bowling his part-time offspin because of a minor knee strain suffered by paceman Daniel Worrall, then dismissed Ashton Turner and D'Arcy Short in the following over.

"It looked like they were cantering towards a win. They were doing it pretty easily but Chaddy managed to get a couple of wickets and get us back in the game," Cooper said.

"Hopefully we don't have a frontline bowler go down in the seven over next time."

WA will join SA in the finals if they defeat the Cricket Australia XI on Tuesday at North Sydney Oval.
