Ferres snubs NRL to sign with Leeds

England international Brett Ferres has opted against a move to the NRL to join Leeds, following his controversial exit from Huddersfield.

England international Brett Ferres says he's looking forward to making a fresh start after knocking back a move to the NRL to join Super League champions Leeds.

The 29-year-old second row forward has signed an initial 12-month contract with the Rhinos, with a view to extending his stay at Headingley long term, after Huddersfield accepted an undisclosed fee.

Ferres was suspended by the Giants in November pending an investigation into his "conduct away from the field" and subsequently disciplined and placed on the transfer list.

According to reports, Ferres had been caught cheating with a team-mate's wife which effectively meant his stay with Huddersfield became untenable.

"That's in the past now, it's gone hasn't it," Ferres said of his enforced departure from the Giants when.

"Unfortunately that's the way things go and I'm moving forward now.

"It's a fresh start for me and I'm looking forward to the opportunity.

"The last year has seen plenty of ups and downs for me however this move gives me an opportunity to finally look forward to the future with confidence and be part of something special here at the Rhinos."

Ferres, who made 77 appearances for the Giants, scoring 28 tries, had four years left on his contract, having agreed last May to extend his deal and ignore a clause allowing him to move to Australia at the end of 2015.

He had been linked with a move to Sydney Roosters, as well as Salford and Hull, following his transfer listing said he had plenty of options.

"I was quite lucky, both here and overseas," he said. "It's nice to be wanted. The best club out there was where I've ended up so I'm very happy about that.

"You only have to look at the success they've achieved over the years. Everyone wants to win silverware and I'm no different.

"I've got two beautiful little girls who I want to spend as much time with so moving to Australia was just not an option."
