Fifteen killed in India road crash

A truck and a motorised rickshaw collision in southern India has left 15 people dead.

Fifteen people including seven children have been killed when a truck hit an overloaded motorised rickshaw in southern India.

The accident took place on the outskirts of Bhainsa in Telengana state late on Saturday when the truck loaded with gravel collided head-on with the autorickshaw carrying 18 people, district police chief Tarun Joshi said.

Thirteen people died on the spot, and another two died in hospital.

Eight of the victims belonged to the same extended family from neighbouring Maharashtra state, Joshi said. Most of them were brick kiln workers.

India's high rate of fatal traffic accidents is mostly blamed on poorly maintained roads and vehicles or negligent driving.
