A fight broke out between a group at a Melbourne apartment before a man was fatally shot.
A 44-year-old man was found with critical injuries inside an Oakleigh East property before 5.30am on Saturday but died in hospital.
Investigators have been told the man was at the apartment when an "altercation" occurred between a group before the shooting, Victoria Police said.
"It is believed a number of people fled the scene in unknown vehicles," a spokeswoman said.
No arrests have been made and police have called on anyone with information to come forward.
