Filipino workers seek better life in Kuwait

SBS Correspondent Kathy Novak has travelled to Kuwait and met some of the Filipinos who went there in search of a better life.

The debate over foreign workers in Australia's mining industry continues to rage.

But for many countries, remittances from their citizens working overseas are essential to bolster the economy at home.

The Philippines is one such nation.

There are about nine million Filipinos working abroad or about ten percent of the population.

Many work in the Middle East as labourers and domestic help and are vulnerable to abuse.

SBS Correspondent Kathy Novak travelled to Kuwait and met some of the Filipinos who went there in search of a better life.
