WORLD FINANCE UPDATE:

The Australian dollar has bounced after US Senate leaders reached a last-minute deal to extend the debt ceiling, ending the fiscal impasse to avoid a possible debt default and the US government shutdown.

At 0630 AEDT on Thursday, the local unit was trading at 95.47 US cents, up from 95.25 cents on Wednesday.

And the Australian share market looks set to open higher after US Senate leaders reached a deal for a temporary budget and to extend the debt ceiling, ending the government shutdowm.

At 0715 AEDT on Thursday, the December share price index futures contract was up 20 points at 5,272.

THE HAGUE - America Movil of Mexico, controlled by one of the world's richest men Carlos Slim, says it is dropping a multi-billion-euro bid for Netherlands operator KPN after a Dutch foundation blocked the takeover.
