WORLD FINANCE UPDATE:

The Australian dollar has been weighed down by strength in the US dollar following a solid performance on Wall Street.

At 0630 ACT on Monday, the currency was trading at 72.07 US cents, down from 72.55 cents on Friday.

And the Australian share market looks set to open higher after a strong performance on Wall Street which was led higher by strong earnings from tech stocks.

At 0645 AEDT on Monday, the share price index futures contract was up 55 points at 5,5378.

ELSEWHERE:

BEIJING - China has abolished its official cap on interest rates for savers and announced a further easing in monetary policy as it seeks to address slowing growth in the world's second-largest economy.

BEIJING - A Chinese investment holding company says it has signed a letter of intent to purchase oil fields in Texas for 8.3 billion yuan ($A1.80 billion) through a limited liability partnership.

FRANKFURT - German telecoms operator Deutsche Telekom says it is to partner with China's Huawei to offer public cloud computing services in a bid to rival US behemoth Amazon.

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan - Japan and Turkmenistan have signed a raft of energy and other deals worth more than $US18 billion ($A24.97 billion) during a Japanese leader's first-ever official visit to the reclusive country.

SAN FRANCISCO - Facebook shares have lifted to an all-time high with the social networking titan looking to expand its search options.

NEW YORK - Procter & Gamble have reported higher profits, but lowered its 2016 sales forecast due to the strong dollar and the impact of asset sales.

TOKYO - Toshiba is reportedly preparing to sell its image sensor operations to Sony in a deal estimated at around $US165 million ($A228.85 million).
