WORLD FINANCE UPDATE:

e Australian dollar has fallen to a one-month low after the release of very strong US jobs figures.

At 0630 AEDT on Monday, the currency was trading at 70.19 US cents, down from 71.45 cents on Friday.

And the Australian share market looks set to open lower despite Wall Street closing mainly higher following better-than-expected jobs data.

At 0645 AEDT on Monday, the December share price index futures contract was down 28 points at 5,194.

ELSEWHERE:

BEIJING - China recorded its highest trade surplus on record last month, official data shows, as plunging imports highlighted the country's continued struggle to boost domestic demand and prop up sagging growth.

MARIANA - Brazilian authorities have confirmed a second death caused by a massive mudflow and flooding that swamped towns near an iron ore mine in the southeastern state of Minas Gerais.

BERLIN - Germany's biggest airline Lufthansa is facing more aviation chaos, cancelling more than 900 domestic and European flights as cabin crew said they would resume a strike in a battle over cost cuts.

DOHA - International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde has warned that global energy prices could remain low for years and urged Gulf countries to adjust their budgets.

SAN FRANCISCO - Apple has defeated a class action lawsuit from its California store employees seeking back pay for the time taken to undergo checks of their bags when leaving for the day.

OMAHA - Berkshire Hathaway Inc's third-quarter profit more than doubled as the completion of the Kraft-Heinz merger boosted the value of its stake in the food giant.

KINSHASA - Seismic tests in Democratic Republic of Congo's Virunga National Park, Africa's oldest wildlife reserve which is famed for its mountain gorillas, have confirmed the presence of oil, the Congolese government says.
