Concerns remain about the fitness of Aaron Finch, who lasted just one ball on resumption from retiring hurt during the second Test against India in Perth.
Finch did not take the field when India began their second innings shortly before tea on Monday's fourth day.
Mitch Marsh instead stepped in as substitute fielder with Australia shuffling their slip cordon in Finch's absence.
Finch had been forced to cut short his innings on day three after he suffered a painful blow to his right index finger from a rearing Mohammed Shami delivery.
Fears that he could miss the rest of the four-Test series were diffused when scans confirmed there was no fracture.
But Finch lasted just one ball upon resuming his innings, immediately copping a short ball from Shami which he gloved down the leg side to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant.
The fact he did not initially take the field on Monday suggests he is still experiencing significant discomfort which could rule him out of the Boxing Day Test.
Australia's selectors will name their squad for Melbourne and Sydney upon the completion of the Perth Test.
