Forecast high winds and hot temperatures across Tasmania have sparked a total fire ban for southern and eastern regions on Tuesday.

Announcing the ban as crews monitor up to 20 bushfires, Tasmania Fire Service chief officer Gavin Freeman warned conditions will make blazes difficult to control.

"We now have several fires burning around the state and a prediction of a very high fire danger rating for much of the south for tomorrow means that a total fire ban is needed," Mr Freeman said.
