Fire policy at core of Greens launch

The Greens will unveil a national bushfire policy including greater support for firefighters following a devastating summer season.

The Greens are expected to unveil policy providing greater support for firefighters called to burning wilderness areas.

The announcement will come at the campaign launch of Tasmanian senators Peter Whish-Wilson and Nick McKim in Hobart on Tuesday, at an event also due to be attended by former Australian Greens leaders Bob Brown and Christine Milne.

The national bushfire policy comes after devastating summer blazes across Tasmania burnt swathes of the remote bushland, including about 11,000 hectares of the state's Wilderness World Heritage Area.

Scores of the fires were started by dry-lightning strikes during a period of record-low rainfall.
