Fire trucks are heading to a grassfire beside a freeway in the northern Melbourne suburb of Craigieburn.

Fire trucks are on their way to a grassfire beside the Hume Freeway in the Melbourne suburb of Craigieburn.

An MFB spokesman says a median strip is also on fire.

The blaze is near the Hume Freeway and Cooper Street in the northern suburb.

There are reports of a huge plume of smoke.
