Firebirds want to go out with a bang

The Queensland Firebirds are banding together for what could be the last time before cashed-up new Australian franchises begin picking apart their roster ahead of netball's revolution next year.

The Firebirds host arch-rivals NSW Swifts on Sunday in the trans-Tasman netball grand final at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre - a rematch of last year's decider, when Queensland trailed all match but stole a thrilling victory in the final moments.

If the Firebirds can do it again, they'll become the first and only team in history to secure back-to-back trans-Tasman titles.

That is enough motivation in itself, but centre Kimberley Ravaillion admits there is another reason to leave it all on the court.

In 2017, an eight-team all-Australian league will be launched, with three new franchises backed by AFL and NRL clubs entering the fray - and all are expected to take an aggressive approach to recruitment.

Having dominated the competition for the last two years, Queensland will probably be their first port of call - which is what makes Sunday so important.

"There's not going to be this competition next year. We want to go out with a bang," Ravaillion told AAP.

"The team we have is such a special team.

"(Our success) comes down to our culture, that belief and confidence in each other.

"We want to finish strong and hopefully with the trophy in our hands."

Ravaillion is set to lock horns with NSW veteran Kim Green, who appears back to full fitness after a full 60 minutes in the Swifts' semi-final win over the Magic on Monday night.

That was her first complete game since partially tearing her ACL back in round five.

Despite the seriousness of the injury, Green maintains her knee is stable enough to handle the rigours of a grand final and Ravaillion doesn't expect she will be hindered by it.

"I'm sure she won't feel it. You usually go numb into a match like this with all the adrenaline," she said.
