Firefighters contain regional WA blaze

Firefighters are getting on top of a blaze in Western Australia's South West, prompting an alert downgrade from emergency to watch and act.

A bushfire that destroyed four sheds and four vehicles in Western Australia's South West region has been contained, but not controlled.

An emergency warning for some parts of Southhampton and Cundinup has been downgraded to a watch and act, while the alert level for nearby Balingup and other parts of Southhampton has been lowered to an advice.

The fire was reported two days ago and has destroyed more than 3300 hectares.

About 250 firefighters continue to work on the blaze and have saved homes in the area.

Separately, a watch-and-act alert remains in place for the northern part of Cape Le Grand National Park, east of Esperance.

There is a possible threat to lives and property, and campers have been told they have to leave.

The bushfire was reported on Thursday morning and is moving slowly but is out-of-control and unpredictable.
