Firefighters control blaze in WA's south

A bushfire is no longer posing the greatest risk to lives and homes in Western Australia's south after firefighters brought it under control.

A bushfire in Western Australia's south no longer poses an immediate threat to lives and homes after firefighters managed to bring it under control.

The lowest-level fire alert was issued on Wednesday night for the northern part of Yakamia in the City of Albany, hours after it flared up and hit the highest warning level.

"The alert level for this fire has been downgraded as the fire is contained and no longer moving towards homes," an Emergency WA alert said.

It was sparked by a vehicle fire and has burnt 9.44 hectares.
