Cricket Australia has announced the schedule for the 2017-18 Ashes, confirming a day-night Test will be played in Adelaide while righting two wrongs from the current summer.
CA was widely criticised for shifting the first Test from Brisbane to Perth this year and giving Steve Smith's side just a single Sheffield Shield game to prepare for a three-Test series against South Africa.
Both of those issues have been addressed in the 2017-18 program released on Tuesday by CA and the England and Wales Cricket Board.
"This schedule will allow for at least three Sheffield Shield matches to be completed as preparation prior to the first Ashes Test in Brisbane," CA chief executive James Sutherland said in a statement.
Australia's quest to reclaim the urn starts on November 23 at the Gabba. Adelaide Oval will then host a pink-ball Test between December 2-6.
The much-anticipated series will end with traditional fixtures at the MCG and SCG. The only question mark is whether the WACA or yet-to-be-completed 60,000-capacity Perth Stadium will host the third Test.
"The decision to start the international season in Brisbane, then moving to Adelaide, allows us to give Perth Stadium the best chance to host the Test match," Sutherland said.
"So we can welcome an even bigger crowd to Perth next summer."
Skippers Smith and Alastair Cook both suggested earlier this year the Ashes should remain a red-ball affair.
Smith later changed his tune, especially after playing with Kookaburra's new version of the pink pill in this year's day-night Test against the Proteas.
Australia, who face Pakistan in a day-night Test at the Gabba this week, have won two pink-ball Tests at Adelaide Oval.
England will get their first taste of pink-ball cricket against West Indies at Edgbaston in August.
"We're really excited to announce that Adelaide will play host to the first ever day-night Ashes Test. We know how much Adelaide fans love this style of Test cricket. We're expecting a full house next year in what is sure to be a great contest," Sutherland said.
Following the Test series, a five-match one-day international series between the two countries begins at the MCG on January 14.
Australia will then play England and New Zealand in a six-match Twenty20 tri-series in February, with three games at home and three games across the Tasman before the final at Eden Park in Auckland.
