Veteran St Kilda defender Sam Fisher is unsure whether this is will be his last AFL season.

Fisher is on the verge of returning to full training after suffering a hamstring injury in round 10.

He wants to see how the rest of the season plays out before making a call on his AFL future.

But the 33-year-old also admits that even if he wants another season, the Saints will most likely have the last word.

"I haven't decided yet ... I've haven't crossed that line yet," he told RSN.

"I just have to get back to playing and then see how I go for the remaining month to six weeks of footy."

Asked who would make the ultimate decision on his playing future, Fisher replied: "It would probably be the club's, I'd say."

Fisher suffered a setback in his injury comeback a couple of weeks ago.

"It's on the right track now," he said.

"I haven't gone back to square one, it was only an aggravation."

Fisher has played 225 games for the Saints since his 2004 debut and is philosophical about his latest injury.

"It's never easy to deal with, these little aggravations and setbacks, when you get so close to almost returning to full training and playing," he said.

"But there are a lot of worse (off) people out there in the world than me.

"So I'm just grateful I still have the opportunity to probably come back and play a decent month of footy towards the end of the year."
