Fishing fatalities named, search continues

Two bodies recovered from seas southeast of Hobart belong to locals Magnus Ritter and Luke Williams, police have confirmed.

Police have released the names of two men whose bodies were recovered after a fatal fishing trip southeast of Hobart, as the search continues for their mates who are presumed dead.

They were Magnus Julian Ritter, 34, and Luke William Davies, 32, both of suburban Hobart.

The pair were part of a foursome - along with a 26-year-old Hobart man and a New Zealander aged 35 - who launched a runabout from a Cremorne beach on Sunday and failed to return as planned.

The bodies of Mr Ritter, a personal trainer, and Mr Davies, were recovered on Monday about 3km apart.

One of the men had suffered a head injury, police say.

On Wednesday more than five vessels and a search and rescue helicopter continued to scour waters for the missing men and the five-metre fibreglass boat.

Police hold little hope of finding the pair alive based on weather conditions and water temperatures.

Investigators are yet to determine how the Sunday fishing trip turned to tragedy.

The 1970s model boat, recently purchased, is likely to have sunk if swamped as it would not have contained buoyancy aids compulsory in newer vessels.

It's possible the two missing men could be trapped beneath the boat on the sea floor.

Police are using drift patterns and mobile phone records to pinpoint the location the boat is likely to have struck trouble and will then deploy divers.

Mr Ritter's partner Alexandra Hayes has told The Australian newspaper the incident should serve as an important safety message.

"I just want to reiterate the importance of safety and communication with your loved ones," she said.

"Make sure people know where you are and what time you're expected back."
