Victorian allrounder John Hastings is eyeing a return to the Australian limited-overs side after recovering from a shoulder injury.
The 30-year-old missed the Bushrangers' past three Sheffield Shield matches after dislocating his left shoulder in a freak batting incident in the nets but will return on Sunday for the top-of-the-table clash against South Australia at the MCG.
Hastings played two ODIs against England in Australia's recent tour and is looking to push his claims for a spot in the attack when India tour in January.
"I'm setting my sights on the one-dayers coming up for Australia," Hastings said.
"With the recent retirement of Mitchell Johnson and Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins injured there are some spots there.
"There will continue to be guys putting their hands up for selection and hopefully I can be one of those guys.
"Doing well in the recent series in England, hopefully I can stay fit and keep bowling well and I can get another chance."
But while he still has international ambitions, Hastings is first intent on helping Victoria cement their hold on top spot on the Sheffield Shield table before attacking the Big Bash League with Melbourne Stars.
"If we can go into the Big Bash break with a win it will be absolutely fantastic," he said.
"It would be the perfect start to the year really - sitting on top of the table.
"But (the Redbacks) have got a really good young squad. They're enthusiastic, they want to win and, to be quite honest, they've had the wood over us for the last couple of years in all forms really.
"I think we owe them one."
