Five people have been killed by flash floods in the southern Philippines after almost a month's worth of rain fell in just one day.
Nearly 5000 people were also forced to flee their homes from waist-deep floods in the southern region of Mindanao, disaster relief agencies said on Monday.
In the most affected province of Misamis Oriental, a 10-year-old girl drowned while crossing a swollen river in the town of Opol, while rescuers fished out the body of a 59-year-old man from a separate river in the city of Cagayan de Oro.

Two children, aged three and five, drowned in floods in the town of Roxas in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, where 10 towns and a city were inundated, police said.
The weather bureau said a low pressure area and the tail end of a cold front triggered almost a month's rain over the affected areas in just 24 hours on Monday.
The flooding was worsened by a high tide on Monday afternoon, it said.
