Five dead on Queensland's roads

Five people have been killed in four separate road accidents on the final day of Queensland's school holidays.

Queensland's school holidays period has ended on a sad note following five road deaths in one day.

A 57-year-old woman passenger died when a car left the road and hit a tree near Tallai, west of the Gold Coast about 8pm Sunday. The male driver was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Earlier on Sunday, two people were found dead in a burning car northwest of Brisbane.

The vehicle was found ablaze on Sunday afternoon in Wallumbilla North and police believe it hit a tree before leaving the road.

An 18-year-old driver also died about 9am on Sunday in a single-vehicle crash at Pittsworth, west of Toowoomba, on the Darling Downs.

And a cyclist aged in his 40s was killed in a crash with a vehicle on Mt Nebo, northwest of Brisbane, about 7.30am.
