Five hurt in Syd bus and excavator crash

Five people have been hurt after an excavator arm swung around and clipped a bus carrying 22 people in Sydney's west.

Five people have suffered minor injuries after the arm of an excavator crashed into a passenger bus near a worksite in Parramatta during the morning commute.

The bus clipped the excavator on Smith Street in Parramatta just before 7am Monday, causing the excavator's arm to swing into the front corner and door of the bus, trapping the 22 passengers, police said.

Five people suffered minor injuries, including a man who had a bump to his head and a second with an injured knee, a NSW Ambulance spokesman said.

Two passengers were taken by ambulance to Westmead Hospital.

The bus driver was breath-tested at the site and returned a negative reading. Police are urging witnesses to the crash to contact Crime Stoppers.
