Five people have been killed and three injured in an explosion at a factory in China's eastern Shandong province, state media reported Saturday.
The blast occurred on Friday night in a workshop belonging to a perlite factory in the city of Qingzhou, according to Xinhua news agency.
An initial investigation showed the blast was caused by a leak in a liquefied gas tank.
The factory's owner has been held by police, and further investigation is underway.
Factory explosions in China are frequent due to the lax enforcement of safety regulations. Last week, an explosion at a chemical plant in the eastern province of Jiangsu killed 78 people and sent 640 to hospital.
