Police allege a black Mercedes Benz was stolen from a home in Amaroo in Canberra on Friday.

At around 7am the following day, the vehicle was spotted stopping for petrol about 300km away, in Molong central west NSW and no payment was made.

Police allege the driver was a 16-year-old boy, while two other boys, aged 13 and 15, and a 14-year-old girl, were the passengers.

A series of calls were made by members of the public concerned with the manner of driving.

Police say the car exceeded 150km/h along the Mitchell Highway towards Dubbo.
Police eventually tracked down the Mercedes, which had crashed because of a tyre blowout.

At around 8am police tried to stop the vehicle using lights and sirens, but the driver failed to stop and a pursuit began.

But due to public safety concerns, the pursuit was called off.

Later that afternoon, the vehicle was again spotted, this time doing burnouts in the town of Coonamble.

There was a second failed attempt to stop the vehicle but a short time later, police were able to track down the Mercedes, which had crashed because of a tyre blowout.

Officers arrested the five teens, who were all taken to Coonamble Police Station.

All five teens appeared at a Children’s Court on Sunday.
