Azerbaijan has hoisted a giant flag in its National Flag Square, on what's reportedly the tallest flagpole in the world.
According to Azerbaijani news website news.az, President Ilham Aliyev set aside the ninth of November as National Flag Day at a ceremony to mark the putting into action of the 162m pole.
National feelings run high in Azerbaijan, which is currently disputing territory with neighbouring Caucasus state Armenia. On Monday, two Azerbaijanis and three Armenians were killed in border clashes near the territory of Nagorno Karabakh.
President Aliyev earned a rebuke from Armenia after saying during the flag-hosting that his nation's flag would one day flu over the disputed region.
