Floods kill at least 100 people in Kenya

The Red Cross in Kenya says days of heavy rainfall in the east African nation have killed about 100 people and displaced more than 250,000.

Days of heavy rainfall have killed about 100 people and displaced more than 250,000 others in various parts of Kenya, the national Red Cross says.

At least 33 people were injured by the unseasonal rains, which caused widespread floods in the nation's western, eastern and Rift Valley regions, the Red Cross said in a statement.

The floods also damaged infrastructure, leading to power outages and making markets inaccessible.

At least 29 schools and 33 health facilities were either submerged or inaccessible due to the flooding, the organisation said.

More rainfall is forecast in the region over the coming days.
