Florent to make AFL debut for Swans

Sydney's first-round AFL draft pick Oliver Florent will make his debut in the Swans' season opener against Port Adelaide at the SCG on Saturday.

Teenager and first-round Sydney draft pick Oliver Florent will make his AFL debut for the Swans against Port Adelaide at the SCG on Saturday.

Taken with the 11th pick last year, the speedy 18-year-old and former Sandringham Dragon can play both as a midfielder and forward.

He played in all three of the Swans pre-season games averaging 13 disposals and kicking two early goals in the first match against North Melbourne.

"I am in shock, I never thought I would play so early and I am just so excited to get out there with the team," Florent said on the Swans' website.

"In the team meeting before training (head coach) John Longmire called me up and asked me a few questions before saying I was playing round one.

"Everything else was a blur pretty much - standing there in shock, in front of the boys as they were slapping the walls and going crazy.

"It was a really good experience."

Former co-captain Kieren Jack and key back Aliir Aliir are both expected to be available for Saturday's match despite neither playing in any of the pre-season games.

Aliir, who missed the 2016 grand final with a knee injury, didn't play in the pre-season matches because of a toe issue.

However, he has had two hitouts with Sydney's NEAFL side.

Jack wasn't selected for the first pre-season match and missed the last two with a hip problem, but has trained this week.
