Flu outbreak closes Toowoomba school

A Queensland all-girls high school with nearly 1000 students has decided to close for two days next week after an outbreak of the flu.

A Queensland school will close for two days next week as it tries to deal with an outbreak of influenza.

Fairholme College, an all-girls school in Toowoomba with close to 1000 students, will close on Monday and Tuesday and has asked sick students not to return on Wednesday.

Principal Dr Linda Evans said the decision had been made in consultation with health officials.

"This is not a decision that has been made lightly, but it is a decision that has been made in the best interests of the health and well-being of our students and staff," Ms Evans said.

The school will care for boarding students who are unable to travel home for the closure.
