A person has been treated for meningococcal Y after contracting the uncommon infection in Far North Queensland earlier in the year.
A Queensland health spokeswoman confirmed on Wednesday the patient, whose details were unavailable due to privacy reasons, had caught the disease around the Cairns region in early January.
Symptoms of meningococcal Y include vomiting, fever, headaches, drowsiness and rash of red-purple spots or bruises.
