Many Australians decided to use football as a way of helping better connect students from diverse backgrounds.

Federal politicians have played a friendly football match against former Socceroos and current A-League and W-League players to promote Harmony Day.

The game took place on this morning on a pitch alongside Parliament House.

The politicians' team was led by Senator Kate Lundy, who rallied colleagues Stephen Conroy and Steve Fielding, to take on the team captained by ex-Socceroos midfielder and SBS chief football analyst Craig Foster - which included TWG hosts Les Murray and David Basheer.
