For Sale: The home where Marilyn died

The Hollywood home where blonde bombshell Marilyn Monroe lived - and famously died - is for sale for $A9.2 million.

The only home ever owned by Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe, in the affluent Brentwood area of Los Angeles, is for sale with an asking price of $US6,900,000 ($A9.2 million).

The bottle blonde bombshell, whose last feature film was the 1961 drama The Misfits, with Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift, bought the 1929 Spanish hacienda style four-bedroom home in the coveted and star-studded Helenas district in early 1962.

Some reports say she paid $US67,000 and others $US90,000.

Whatever the amount, the sex symbol's residency was tragically short-lived as she was found in August 1962, aged 36, naked and face down on her bed clutching a telephone handset, dead from an apparent overdose of sleeping pills.
