Parramatta star Kieran Foran has played down reports he is set to walk away from rugby league.

Foran is recovering from a season-ending shoulder injury and working through personal issues after being admitted to rehab for personal issues in April.

It was reported on Friday that Foran had told friends he was considering walking away from the NRL as he attempts to reconcile with his partner.

However, in a statement to Nine Network, he assured fans he was intending to come back in 2017 and see out his deal.

"Wanted to let the Parramatta fans know that I have no intention of quitting footy, probably the opposite to be honest," Foran said.

"I need football in my life and this shoulder injury has reinforced that to me."

If Foran, who is on a deal believed to be worth $1.2 million a year, were to depart, it could open the door for the club to sign Jarryd Hayne following the completion of his Olympic duties with the Fijian rugby sevens side.

Foran is contracted to the Eels until the end of 2017 with, an option in his favour for a further two seasons.

The 25-year-old has moved back into his family home with his partner, Rebecca Pope, and their two young children.
