Former AMA chief to run in Sydney election

High profile same-sex marriage advocate and former AMA president Kerryn Phelps will run on Clover Moore's ticket in the September City of Sydney election.

High profile same-sex marriage advocate Kerryn Phelps will contest the City of Sydney election. (AAP)

Former Australian Medical Association president Kerryn Phelps will contest the City of Sydney election as part of the Lord Mayor's team of independents.

Dr Phelps, a prominent same-sex marriage advocate, is one of seven independents running on Clover Moore's ticket for the September election.

Christine Forster, the sister of former Prime Minister Tony Abbott, is also contesting the election as the Liberal party's official candidate.
