Former New Zealand captain Lee Germon has been appointed as the new chief executive of Cricket NSW.

Germon, who is general manager of the Sydney Thunder, will replace Andrew Jones in the top job in NSW after his predecessor had recently announced his resignation.

Germon played 12 Tests for New Zealand as a wicketkeeper from 1995-97 and captained his country in all of them, before later becoming CEO of Canterbury Cricket.

"Lee stood out because of his extensive leadership experience at two elite cricket organisations, his experience in stakeholder management and building a culture of success on and off the field," Cricket NSW chairman John Knox said.

"Cricket continues to change with the explosion of the Big Bash and a heavy investment in grass roots which will encourage more boys and girls to play the game.
